$1.5m, 1,000bhp air-cooled Porsche named after Jet Fighter

Guntherwerks has gained a reputation for creating outrageous Porsche-based models. Its newest creation is called the Project F-26. Unveiled at the Quail during Monterey Car Week, the Guntherwerks Project F-26 utilizes the classic Slantnose design as its foundation, but everything else about this model is modern. The name F-26 is intended to evoke the speed of fighter jets, as Guntherwerks did not compromise on power.

The Project F-26 is equipped with a Rothsport Racing-designed, air-cooled, twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter flat-six engine, delivering 1000 hp and 750 lb-ft of torque. This immense power is channeled through a six-speed manual transmission to the rear wheels via a limited-slip differential. To handle such high horsepower, Guntherwerks has added a race-inspired flat fan, a brand-new carbon fiber intake system, and a carbon fiber charge pipe to maintain optimal airflow through this large flat-six engine. An intake-integrated blowoff valve and a custom 935-style exhaust with external wastegates ensure the F-26 produces all the distinctive turbocharged sounds.

Maintaining a 2700-pound Porsche with 1000 hp on the road is quite challenging, but Guntherwerks has equipped the F-26 with a staggered tire setup to assist. The rear of the F-26 comes standard with 335mm section Continental ExtremeContact Force tires, while slightly smaller 295mm sections aid in the agility of the lightweight model. A modern traction control system, along with a motorsport-derived ABS system, will also help keep the F-26 stable. Additionally, the F-26 features a brand-new double-wishbone front suspension and adaptive JRZ dampers. The rear wheelbase has been extended by 30 millimeters to ensure dynamic stability and enhance the center of gravity.

These powertrain and suspension enhancements define a contemporary build, yet the F-26's visual elements are less focused on the 935 era. The pop-up headlights have been replaced with fixed units, housed within a carbon-fiber front end. Additional motorsport-inspired exterior features include a side-intake system and a large wing that generates an unspecified amount of downforce. The F-26's interior truly highlights its modernity, featuring exposed carbon trim and an Alcantara headliner. Standard features include custom leather upholstery and a Porsche Classic radio with Apple CarPlay, ensuring access to your favorite streaming services.

A limited edition of 26 units will be produced, which is why it carries the F-26 nameplate. Each unit will be custom-built for a select group of clients. Although pricing and production specifics have not been disclosed, it's unlikely that the F-26 will be priced under $1 million. If the cost exceeds $1 million, the company's past projects indicate that such a high price might be justified.
